ways to share the night

fall asleep with someone, even apart

how it works

  1. pick a beat

Choose 40 to 90 bpm (default 55), open a heartbeat someone sent you, or start a shared night together.

  2. slide it under the pillow

Place your iPhone screen-down under the edge of your pillow, or between mattress and pillow.

  3. hold to start, then rest

Hold to start and the screen turns true black until the timer fades out or you double-tap to end it.

why a heartbeat

the first rhythm

Sleep apps only sell sound. When white noise isn't enough for an empty bed or a racing mind, Lubb turns your iPhone into a soft, physical heartbeat under your pillow: the tactile feeling of falling asleep on someone's chest.

A slow, rhythmic heartbeat under the pillow is quiet company: something steady beside you while you settle.

Using the iPhone Taptic Engine, Lubb plays deep, two-part haptics on a true-black screen: your first night is whole, and two minutes are free every night after.

For comfort, not treatment. Lubb isn't a medical device.

experiences

the quiet bed

“My partner travels for weeks at a time. Having this under the pillow makes the empty side of the bed feel a lot less quiet.”

early tester · new york

“When my mind is racing at 2 am, white noise doesn’t work. The slow physical tap gives my thoughts something real to anchor to.”

app store review

“No screen light, no headphone wires to tangle in my sleep, just a slow pulse through the mattress.”

heartbeats ride in the link

A fingertip or Apple Watch recording stays on your phone unless you send it. In a link, it sits after the #, which browsers never send to a server.

live heart rates are sealed

When you fall asleep to each other's heart, values are encrypted on your phone with a key inside the invitation link. Our relay passes them through without reading them.

sleep stays on your iPhone

If you allow it, Lubb reads when you fell asleep from Apple Health to show how many minutes the beat took. It never writes to Health or leaves your phone.

questions

Does the phone vibrate?

Yes. Lubb uses the iPhone's Taptic Engine, the part that makes the phone vibrate, to play a slow two-part heartbeat: a soft lub, then a softer dub. It's a much gentler, rounder vibration than a notification buzz, and it comes up through the pillow rather than against your hand.

How do I fall asleep to someone’s heartbeat, or together from afar?

Anyone with Lubb can record their pulse in 45 seconds by resting a fingertip on the iPhone camera, or share last night's pulse from an Apple Watch. Lubb turns it into a link you can send in any message, and the heartbeat rides inside the link itself with no account. You can also send an invitation to fall asleep to the same beat at the same moment, or to each other's live Apple Watch heart rate.

Is Lubb a white noise app?

No. White noise and sleep sound apps play audio. Lubb plays a slow heartbeat you feel: the iPhone's Taptic Engine sends a soft lub-dub up through your pillow, which suits people who can't sleep with sound or headphones. A low heartbeat sound is there if you want it, off by default. If you already have a white noise app you like, keep it: Lubb plays alongside it rather than stopping it.

How is Lubb different from heartbeat videos or a heartbeat plush?

A video plays a heartbeat you hear, while Lubb plays one you feel through your pillow, with no ads and a gentle fade-out. A heartbeat plush is something to hold, while Lubb uses the iPhone you already have, lets you tune the pace (40 to 90 bpm) and strength to your bedding, and can play a real person's recorded heartbeat.

Does it need an account?

No. There's no account, no sign-up, no email and no ads. Your heartbeats and sleep readings stay on the phone unless you send them. Lubb counts anonymous app usage and, only if you allow tracking, tells Meta that an ad brought you here and which first steps you took.

Does it work through any pillow, and will it drain my battery?

A thin down pillow passes the beat almost fully; thick memory foam soaks up more, which is why strength and feel are adjustable. A full night of haptics uses real power even on a true-black screen, so start the night charged, and never charge a phone under a pillow because bedding traps heat.

Why does the screen stay on?

iPhone haptics only play while the app is open, so Lubb keeps the phone awake. The screen staying on is the beat still going. The display turns true black, which costs almost nothing on an OLED iPhone.

Can I use it with Sleep Focus or Apple Watch?

Yes. Set one automation in Shortcuts so turning on Sleep Focus runs Lubb's Start Heartbeat action automatically, or start from Siri and Home Screen widgets. On Apple Watch, Lubb works as a remote for the iPhone, offers a 30-minute wrist wind-down of light taps, and can share last night's heart rate, while the night's beat plays on the iPhone.

Can I try Lubb before paying, and how much does Plus cost?

Yes. Your first night is whole: any length, until morning, with no account and no card. So is your first night with each heartbeat or invitation someone sends you. After that, two minutes are free every night. Lubb Plus unlocks 30-minute, 2-hour and all-night sessions every night: $19.99 a year, $3.99 a month, or $59.99 once.

Does it work on Android, iPad or Mac?

No. Lubb plays the beat through the iPhone's Taptic Engine, so it needs an iPhone running iOS 18 or later. An Apple Watch can act as a companion, but Lubb doesn't run on Android phones, iPad or Mac.

Is this a baby heartbeat app or a sleep tracker?

Neither. Lubb is for adults who like having someone beside them at bedtime, not a fetal doppler or medical monitor. And it doesn't measure your sleep itself: if you allow it, it reads from Apple Health when you fell asleep to show how many minutes the beat took, without ever scoring your night.
